KILLING STEREOTYPES

Hollywood's Responsibility
Hollywood is not making it any easier to kill
stereotypes. I recently watched the dry movie The Siege.
Surprisingly enough, the movie was not as blatant in making all
Muslims appear as terrorists. The producers tried their
"best" to be politically correct by interjecting the sound
with news clips and random statements of how terrorist ideology is
not representative of Islam. Even the story was kinder, it showed
that US was ultimately responsible for these attacks by having used
a young group of Palestinians to attempt to kill Saddam and leaving
them in Iraq to be slaughtered (so repercussion was
inevitable) and also by showing a ruthless General who illegally
kidnaps a Muslim terrorist leader. The name and story bears uncanny
resemblance to the Osama Bin Laden fiasco I see nowadays.
However, despite their attempt at being
politically correct, they have also undermined the values of the
Muslim community. The fanatical terrorist who was to set the last
bomb explosion was initially portrayed as utterly sacrilegious &
hypocritical. It seems the movie makes are telling me the fanatic
bombers were rolling in sin before they went on their killing
rampage to make them seem more evil. I find it a bit inaccurate, not
to say I know what the terrorists are like. But, other than
nationalism, I think they must truly believe in something like the
west being the enemy of Islam, to go on a killing spree. Therefore
it would be extremely hypocritical for them to practice the
lifestyle that they consider harmful to Islam. Are they crazy? Yes.
Hypocritical? I think not.
